Michael Jordan

Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on 17 February 1963 in Brooklyn, New York, and raised primarily in Wilmington, North Carolina. Famously cut from his high school varsity basketball team as a sophomore, an early setback he later credited with fuelling his relentless competitive drive, he grew into an outstanding player at the University of North Carolina, hitting the championship-winning shot in the 1982 NCAA title game.

Jordan was drafted third overall by the Chicago Bulls in 1984 and quickly established himself as one of the most spectacular and effective players in NBA history, combining extraordinary athleticism, competitive intensity and clutch performance under pressure that made him must-watch television and rapidly built both his individual stardom and the league's broader commercial appeal.
