Tyler Perry was born on 13 September 1969 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and endured a difficult childhood marked by abuse before moving to Atlanta as a young man and writing his first stage play, I Know I've Been Changed, drawing on his own experiences to fund its 1992 debut.
