📖 Biography

Nidal Tafah earned a state engineering degree in rural engineering from the Institut Agronomique et Vétérinaire Hassan II in 2019, specialising in solar irrigation and sustainable rural infrastructure. She began her career that same year at Agricoser as a rural engineer and operations manager, working directly with farming communities facing water and energy access challenges.

In 2020, Tafah co-founded MIRRIAH alongside technical director Said El Hafidi, an agricultural technology company developing solar-powered irrigation solutions for rural Morocco. As drought and rising fuel costs increasingly threaten African harvests, MIRRIAH's solar pumping equipment connects to drip irrigation systems, progressively replacing diesel-powered motor pumps with a sustainable alternative.

Tafah designed MIRRIAH's installations to be modular, allowing them to grow alongside each farm's needs, and introduced a 'Pay-As-You-Grow' financing model that spreads the investment cost over time, using fuel savings to offset payments — removing the upfront financial barrier that keeps small producers locked into diesel dependency. Her work has been recognised with the AWIEF 2025 Energy Entrepreneur Award, and she advanced to the semi-final of the 2026 Africa's Business Heroes competition.
