Gillian Arrindell

Gillian Arrindell was a long-time resident of Pimlico and a familiar, popular face within Westminster's Labour group for many years before she stood for election herself. Her early political work was rooted directly in her community — advocacy for housing justice, support for rough sleepers, and a consistent, personal commitment to the most vulnerable residents around her.

Arrindell first stood as a candidate for Tachbrook ward in 2018. She stood again in 2022 for Vincent Square, and in May of that year was elected — becoming the first Labour councillor ever to win that seat from the Conservatives, part of a historic election that swept Conservative control from Westminster City Council for the first time in the council's history.

As councillor for Vincent Square, Arrindell served as the council's air quality and disability champion, and became known for the depth of her casework — diligently helping constituents navigate housing, health and disability support systems, and remaining a consistent, outspoken advocate on issues she cared about, including criticism of Israel's attacks on Palestine in the final year of her life.

Gillian Arrindell died in November 2024 after a second stroke. She was remembered by colleagues and constituents as a fierce advocate for her community, a loyal friend, and someone who spoke daily with fellow councillors about the changes she wanted to see in the world. Westminster Labour described her as a woman who fought for housing justice and for those with the least power to fight for themselves.
