Fredi Nwaka was born in South West London to Nigerian parents and spent part of his early childhood fostered with a family in Kent, an experience marked by isolation and racism that left a lasting impact. He rejoined his biological family in London around age ten, but the disruption left him without a stable sense of identity, and his teenage years were split between the streets of Brixton and periods of involvement with a South London gang.
Nwaka channelled his early struggles into music, becoming a notable MC on London's sound system circuit under the name Kruga, a name that stuck with him ever since. He won awards for Best Newcomer, Best Single, and Best Video at UK Hip Hop Awards, and became the only UK rapper affiliated with the American hip hop collective Wu-Tang Clan, while also working for a period as a bodyguard for touring American artists.
Nwaka transitioned from music into acting, television, and film, appearing in projects including Dead Man Running alongside Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson, the Sky series Bulletproof, and the films Homeless Ashes, Brotherhood, and The Intent. He went on to write, direct, and produce his own films and shorts through his company Gridloc Enterprise, and has continued acting in a steady stream of independent film and television work in the years since. Alongside his creative career, Nwaka now works as a motivational speaker, sharing his story of transformation from a traumatic and difficult upbringing to mentor young people navigating similarly challenging circumstances.
