Angela Bassett

Angela Evelyn Bassett was born on 16 August 1958 in New York City and raised primarily by her mother in St. Petersburg, Florida, where a school field trip to see a play performed by students from Yale University sparked her early interest in acting. She attended Yale University for her undergraduate degree and later earned an MFA from the Yale School of Drama, building rigorous classical theatrical training before pursuing screen acting.

Bassett's breakthrough film role came with her portrayal of Tina Turner in What's Love Got to Do with It (1993), a biographical performance requiring extraordinary physical and emotional intensity that earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and a Golden Globe Award, establishing her as a major dramatic actress capable of carrying a demanding, emotionally complex central role.
